Moving Pictures: Myrna Loy Pastel by Charles Gates Sheldon

Just for a brief post in the "Moving Pictures" series, I've included this lovely pastel of the immortal screen legend, Myrna Loy. It was completed by a famous "pin-up" artist, Charles Gates Sheldon who worked out of New York in Carnegie Hall. During his career, he completed a number of magazine covers and fashion portraits and was considered one of the most sought after portrait artists of the time.

It's a beautifully rendered likeness: very sophisticated and light. It is certainly simple, but that almost makes it more incredible with the amount of emotion and character that is in this piece. Myrna Loy is one of my absolute favorite actresses because she's so witty and beautiful and I feel that this portrait does her incredible justice. Enjoy!
